My First Post!

16 January, 2013 by Giselle Rochford 2 Comments

Ijan1_start used to be pretty active in secondary school back in Trinidad, but my first winter cured me of THAT! I literally stayed in my dorm room for my entire first year, hiding from the snow and the cold. Unfortunately, with nothing to do in my room all day, I ate and read and slept and then ate some more. Needless to say, my sloth-like behaviour was hell on my social life and on my waistline. I also developed a hatred of scales around this time, but think I gained more than 30 pounds that first year! Talk about freshman 15 on crack :(.

In my second year, I decided that I was done being the human sloth and started going to the gym with one of my roommates. It also helped that I had moved into an apartment building with a gym in the basement so I still didn’t have to venture out into the cold :). I was surprisingly good about getting up in the morning before class and going to the gym, but I didn’t change my eating habits and I didn’t keep track of my progress. My gym attendance fluctuated throughout the year, until by August 2012, I hadn’t seen the inside of a gym for more than a month. I was firmly back in sloth mode :(.

In the middle of September, I decided to kick my butt into gear and start back going to the gym. I was in a new city for co-op and I thought it was as good a time as any to start living healthier. I figured since I didn’t have school and studying to distract me I would have more time to dedicate to eating right and working out. So I cleaned out the junk food from my fridge and my cupboards, got a Goodlife membership, bought some new workout gear and haven’t looked back since! 🙂

Four months later I’m eating better and exercising more regularly but I clearly haven’t learned from my mistakes because I’m not keeping track of any of it. Over Christmas, I decided that enough was enough and so one of my New Years resolutions was to start keeping a blog to help me achieve my eating and fitness goals.

In true sloth fashion I haven’t gotten around to it until now…but I’m here and I’m ready. So wish me luck! 🙂
