Turkey Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Stalks

2 March, 2015 by Giselle Rochford 32 Comments

Hey Friends! How’s it goin?

Early last month I started putting more thought behind the recipes I share with you guys here on the blog. I did research, wrote lists and loosely scheduled posts for when I thought they’re be most well received. And then this weekend I went and made something that was nowhere on the list: Turkey Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Stalks.

These turkey bacon wrapped asparagus stalks are simultaneously crunchy and tender, salty and sweet and only take 20 minutes in the oven via @ExSloth | ExSloth.com This entire blogging thing started on a whim and for a long time I was just a place for me to chat about fitness. I didn’t really start sharing recipes regularly until summer last year. Now, my entire blogging strategy revolves around the recipes I share. Hell, just the fact that I even have a blogging strategy is a huge change. I can’t say I’m upset by that because I actually enjoy the hell out of all the things I do to keep the blog running.

But while everything was changing, the food started to change as well. Recipes became more about wow factor and complexity and less about simplicity. Yes, the recipes I share are still healthy but many of them take a lot of work. And while a little work is definitely not a bad thing, sometimes you just need to take it back to basics. And that’s where these turkey bacon wrapped asparagus stalks come in.

They waere’t on the list at all. But I love the combination of the two flavours and if you follow me on Instagram you’d know I have turkey bacon and asparagus frequently in my regular meals. So while I was deciding which recipe to share first this month, I made myself a little snack. I took a page out of my own book blog and wrapped the bacon around the asparagus, like with these loaded potato poppers, then baked them in the oven.

And when I pulled them out, they looked so good, I couldn’t not take a picture. So I had an impromptu food photo shoot right on the stove top. And it felt amazing. There wasn’t any intense planning. No staging of the photos way beforehand. No extra props. It was all organic and in the moment. Just me, my camera and these turkey bacon wrapped asparagus stalks. Two ingredients. One salty, one sweet. One crispy, one tender. And only 20 minutes in the oven.

Simplicity never tasted this good.

Recipe type: Appetizer
Ingredients
  • 20 asparagus stalks
  • 5 slices of turkey bacon
Instructions
  1. Wash asparagus stalks and cut or break off any dead ends
  2. Slice turkey bacon into 4 long strips each, so make 20 strips
  3. Wrap bacon around asparagus as shown in the pictures and secure the ends with toothpicks where necessary
  4. Place asparagus on a wire rack in a baking sheet and bake for 20 - 25 minutes at 375F* until the bacon is crispy
  5. Remove from oven and serve immediately with your favourite dipping sauce (I used ketchup, but garlic mayo would work well also)
Notes
* Do not preheat oven. We want the bacon to get crunchy, not burn so it needs to heat up with the oven

I love asparagus! I have wrapped it in bacon before and it was really good. My daughter won’t eat it with bacon and no one else in my house likes asparagus! I end up eating just steamed asparagus with some lemon/salt with my daughter.

Take green tea and oolong tea that are viewed as liberated from target pesticides subsequent to testing and pass them individually through 10 lattice and 16 cross section sifters after beginning mixing by means of blender. Take 10-16 lattice 500 g oolong tea and green tea each, and spread them consistently over the lower part of a hardened steel vessel with 40 cm width and hang tight for showering.
