Hey Friends! How’s it goin?
I’ve been deliberating something for a while now and I feel like I can’t not talk about it any longer.
When I started Diary of an ExSloth back in January 2013, my only real thought was to use this blog to stay accountable on my fitness journey.
Since then I’ve learned so many things about fitness, healthy living and myself in general and I’ve been feeling a little lot torn lately.
You may have noticed a while back that I started playing around with the tagline of the blog to include things other than fitness. That came about when I realised that this journey wasn’t couldn’t just be about losing weight or working out.
I found that there was so much more to this lifestyle change than just fitness and I was HUNGRY for more knowledge. The more I learned, the more I shared and the more right everything felt.
The problem?
‘Diary of an ExSloth’ is a kick-ass phrase. I’m actually typing one handed and patting myself on the back for think of it 😆
But, for some reason I feel like I don’t fit that name anymore. I’ve changed and am still changing, for the better I hope, and it’s time my blog reflected that.
When I think ExSloth, somehow it doesn’t leave room for writing about some of the things I want to write about. It seems almost limited to fitness and activity. And while I still want to share workouts and fitness tips, that’s not all I want to write about.
I started blogging more about health and wellness anyway at the beginning of this year. But I almost feel like I’m not being true to the name even though I’m being true to myself.
So I’m thinking it might be time for a re-name/re-brand.
But those are just my rambling thoughts…
What about you?
Should I re-name/re-brand or not?
Any healthy blog name suggestions?
And bloggers: Have you gone through a re-brand before? Any advice?

Hi! I’m visiting your blog for the first time today and loved reading about your journey. So about rebranding. It is all up to you. I always tell people that a blog is a deeply personal outlet to share our lives therefore it, including its name, should be a reflection of it. I actually re-branded my blog this fall. It used to be called Asphalt & Trails (yes, I pat myself in the back for that name too…lol) but after I was not able to run due to surgery I started thinking how much running was a part of my life. but it is not everything. So I thought of all the things that make me happy and make my life good: God, my family and friends, fitness, healthy living, and my dogs. So I decided to change thee name to The God Life because it represented that stage in my life and it was more inclusive to everything else going on in my life.

Hi Giselle! I rebranded my blog but it was early enough in my blog’s life and nobody was really reading it. However, I have seen a bunch of blogs re-brand recently. I think it is a natural evolution of things. It did take us a while to brainstorm new names but it was worth the effort. Now we are going through a mini makeover which I can’t wait to reveal. Always something!

Hi Giselle!
Found you on the SITS linkup. My blog is like, less than a newborn (I have yet to get a logo) and I have been playing around w/ different taglines and themes. I’m definitely thinking about changing some stuff around because it doesn’t reflect me the way I want it to. So that being said, I support you re-branding your blog. I like to think of it as an online home, so there’s nothing wrong with rearranging the furniture for the sake of creating better feng shui. Oh, and here’s another pat on the back for the “ExSloth” title. Love that name:)
Good morning, sunshine! I totally hear what you are saying and I have been though a gammit of names. I think rebranding has so many positives and negatives but ultimately, as we grow, so should out blogs so GO FOR IT! I went from having a blog named sculpt savvy, to diapers and dumbbells and now Variety by vashti. I post about so many things so variety works and I always knew I wanted to incorporate my middle name. I think it has to be catchy, be able to have a hashtag or some fun abbreviation (my friend Lauren is Focused to Be Fit-F2BF) and of course reflect you and your passion! Have fun over the next few weeks just writing down clusters of words that pop up and then play a game of word matchmaker. Good luck!

I am actually in the middle of this process. I have changed my blog name a few times over the years. Now I am making the leap to a new domain, new name new look… it’s a little overwhelming trying to make it my own, while still not 100% sure what my niche actually is. Go with your gut and it will evolve naturally. Good luck!
Hey girl! I’ve been struggling with this same problem for a while. Although I love the name of my blog, sometimes I feel like it doesn’t accurately convey what I’m all about. However, a lot of blogs that are very successful have names that don’t hold much meaning to the outside world but that the blogger themselves finds personally meaningful. I’ve decided to stick with mine for now. If you love your name (and I think it’s extremely creative, cute, and made me curious to read more) I think you totally can continue to use it while expanding to new topics. “Sloth” can cover so many areas, and not just fitness/activity. Check out the definition on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloth_(deadly_sin) Hope this helps!! xoxo

Ohh great points! I know what you mean about feeling limited in a way, but I feel like sloth could go in many directions. It’s not that you were once a “sloth” only physically, but maybe even emotionally and in terms of knowledge. You didn’t know how to put your knowledge to good use like you do now, and perhaps “sloth” fits in that category too? Also, I believe it’s about the character behind the writing. My title may have “fit” in it, but I think I’ve always stayed true to my appreciation of spiritual and deep matters as well, so fit goes for many aspects. 🙂 But then again!!! It’s really up to what brings YOU peace about a name change! It’s exciting to think of a new name/brand and to see where that takes you. 😀 Sorry if this wasn’t much help!!! xP But I do like the name exsloth, hehe.
