It’s been a while since I did a ‘let it all hang out’ type post, so I thought I’d catch you up on what’s been going on with me recently, out loud. And, since a lot of today’s ramblings have to do with what I’ve been eating recently, I’ll also be linking up with Jenn and friends for WIAW.
I’ve been working on upping my Instagram game for a while now. It’s been a slow moving process, because unless I’m actively taking photos for the blog, I kind of forget to pull out my camera. Because of that, days can go by without me posting on IG. But, Georgie of In it 4 the Long Run, recently posted a two part series about growing your Instagram, and I took that as a sign for me to get it together.

This week, I made an effort to get outside and take more IG worthy pictures. Of course, that means sharing my breakfast. I fell off the oatmeal wagon last week in favour of smoothie bowls, but it was pretty chilly when I woke up, so oats it was.
Especially since my homemade iced coffee made me feel even colder. Could I have just brewed a fresh cup of hot coffee? Sure. But I’m all about the cold brew right now, weather be damned.
Late last year, I joined Food Photography School by Minimalist Baker. I’d already done their smaller food photography eCourse, but I jumped at the chance to have some more ‘hands on’ learning through videos. I looked at most of the videos when I first enrolled, but now that I have a bit more free time, I’ve been having fun messing around with my DSLR outside of recipe photoshoots.
So, pictures of lunch, my afternoon snack and dinner were all taken with my big girl camera. The goal was to test out some manual settings without worrying about props and styling. It’s insane how much I still have to learn about this camera that I’ve had for 6 plus months. It’s a work in progress.

The last thing I’ve been going crazy for recently is Snapchat. I mentioned it when I shared my tips for blender green juice, but I didn’t really talk about why I love it. So much of my online presence is extra thought out and pre-planned. Not that anything I post on the blog or other social media is a lie, but snapchat is a little more raw. There’s no editing, no filters, no scheduling, no take backs; just me on the go.
I love sharing random things/bloopers/behind the scenes moments that would have probably never made it onto your radar otherwise. Like yesterday, I tried my hand at making iced tea, since the iced coffee was such a success. Everything was going well, until I stupidly poured the hot, steeped tea onto a glass jar the was not heat proof. Not fun.
I’ll be tackling that again today or tomorrow, so if you’re interested in gems like this and other food/fitness related stuff I get up to on a daily, add me on Snapchat. You can either take a pic of my ghost below in the Snapchat app or search for me, “exsloth”, under users.
What about you?

Good food pics are hard to take. I’m pretty good at sharing on social media, but it does get overwhelming sometimes.
LOL at your iced tea mishap! Oops!
I think I’m too old for Snapchat. :/

I struggle so much with taking photos. It’s double bad because one I don’t really like taking photos of myself and two I don’t think I’m very skilled at taking photos of anything else! I know I need to up my game… I guess I just haven’t made it a priority at all yet. You have though, and it shows!

Good food photos makes the world of difference in what recipes I want to pin/save/try! Even if it sounds delicious, if the photos look unappetizing I just scroll past. I so wish I had better lighting in my place for food photos!

I seem to go through phases with my IG photos. Some weeks I’ve very good about consistently posting, and other weeks I’m not. I know that I need to be more consistent, but when life gets busy its definitely difficult.

I love all your photos. You should come give me lessons :). I am on snapchat (fitfulfocus), but I don’t really use it for the blog. I just can’t get all that into it, but I’ll follow you!
