If you follow me on Instagram, you’d know that I’m moving today and have been prepping for this all week. I don’t know about you, but a huge part of preparing to move, for me, is finishing as much as the food in my kitchen as possible. There’s no way I want to worry about cracking eggs or squashing super ripe bananas while carting around U-Haul boxes, so everything fresh has to go. But, I’m a breakfast lover, so I still need stuff on hand for my morning fix. The solution? Breakfast on the go a.k.a. make-ahead breakfasts.
The jury is still out on whether I’ll actually be ready to go today, since I spent way too much time procrastinating instead of packing. But, I wanted to share some tips and recipes for healthy breakfasts on the go anyway, since I’ll need them eventually. Plus, on the go breakfasts aren’t exactly limited to people who are moving. If you regularly have rushed and early starts or prefer quick, no-fuss breakfast prep in the mornings, this roundup is for you.

Smoothies
These babies have saved my life on more than one occasion and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I usually add a banana or some avocado for creaminess and boosts like nuts, seeds or protein powder to mine for an extra kick, but even a basic green smoothie is top notch. Plus, they’re the ultimate grab and go food since all you need is 2 minutes, your ingredients, a blender, a mason jar and a straw. Then you’re out the door.

Oatmeal
I’ve been a fan of oatmeal since the dawn of time, or at least when I started eating solids as a baby. I used to cook my oats on the stovetop (not as a baby), but microwaved oats are just as good and take a lot less time. And, if you’re up for some advanced prep the night before, overnight oats and baked oatmeal are good alternatives as well. Sometimes I even bake my oatmeal in the morning while I’m getting ready to head out, then eat on the bus. Whatever works, right?

Muffins
No, you can’t wake up the morning of, make a full batch of muffins from scratch and call them grab and go. But, if you make them the night, or the weekend before, they’ll be spreading the baked good love every morning for the week. And, in my opinion, there’s no better way to start the day, than something warn and made with love a.k.a. flour.

Bars and Bites
Like with baked oatmeal, overnight oats and muffins, these require a little extra prep the night or even a couple days before. But, once you get making them out of the way, you’re left with perfect, nutritious grab and go breakfasts. Bonus points if you get creative and can grab a different one every morning.

Granola/Cereal
Don’t judge me, but I can eat a bowl of granola in like 2 minutes flat. My favourite cereal at the moment is Love Grown Foods Cocoa Power O’s, but, when I’m out of that, I almost always have homemade granola on hand. Since, as I mentioned, I can down a bowl of cereal like nobody’s business, it’s one of my most used grab and go options. Except I usually have time to eat it betweem grabbing and going.

Other
These other recipes don’t fall into any particular category I’ve mentioned, but they’re still perfect for breakfast if you’re in a rush. Plus, there’s something called pancake in a jar on this list. It needs to happen asap.
